"The potential positive impact of duties for the EU solar producers is dwarfed by the negative impact on employment."

Thorsten Preugschas, spokesman for the Alliance for Affordable Solar Energy, claiming that up to 240,000 European jobs in downstream businesses could be at risk at a time of record unemployment, if the European Union levies anti-dumping tariffs against solar-product imports from China.

"If China's recent shift toward private consumption-led growth proves durable and intensifies, its demand for imports of consumer goods and services will rise, especially if the exchange rate continues to appreciate."

Eswar Prasad, a professor at Cornell University and a former China division chief at the International Monetary Fund, saying China is the one trading partner to which US exports are on track to double during a five-year period, and that this could solidify China's position as one of the fastest-growing markets for US exports.

"No matter the model, we believe this bodes well for the industry in general, as it may help accelerate TCM standardization and modernization, as well as TCM acceptance in overseas markets."

Bruce Liu, partner and co-head of pharma and healthcare practice at Roland Berger Strategy Consultants, saying international drug makers are exploring ways, including joint ventures and co-development partnerships, to combine Western approaches to drug discovery with the material repertoire of traditional Chinese medicine.
