Safeguarding the authority of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and its unified and centralized leadership is "the supreme political principle and the fundamental political rule for the whole Party", an official statement released on Tuesday said.

The statement was issued after a meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, which was presided over by Xi Jinping, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee.

At the conference, members of the Political Bureau reviewed a report about the comprehensive situation of the works of Party organizations in the National People's Congress, the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, the Supreme People's Court and the Supreme People's Procuratorate as well as the works of the CPC Central Committee Secretariat.

The Political Bureau fully acknowledged the works of those agencies in the past year, and it also agreed with their work plan for this year.

The CPC's leadership is the most fundamental form of socialism with Chinese characteristics, the reflection of the common will and fundamental interests of the whole Party, nation and people, and the essential guarantee for the success in building a moderately prosperous society and socialism with Chinese characteristics for a new era, it said.

To uphold the Party's leadership, the whole Party must uphold and safeguard the authority of the CPC Central Committee and its centralized and unified leadership, the statement said.

The whole Party must stick to the Four Consciousnesses－to enhance political integrity, develop a better understanding of the general picture, follow the core leadership of the Central Committee and act consistently with CPC Central Committee policy, it said.

Safeguarding the authority of the CPC Central Committee and its centralized and unified leadership should be the supreme political principle and the fundamental political rule for the whole Party, and all Party members should remain consistent with the CPC Central Committee with Xi as the core in their thoughts and actions, the statement said.

The meeting highlighted the importance of this year, when China celebrates the 40th anniversary of reform and opening-up and works toward building a moderately prosperous society and implementing the 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-20).

The Party organizations in the National People's Congress, the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, the Supreme People's Court and the Supreme People's Procuratorate must resolutely safeguard the authority of the CPC Central Committee and its centralized and unified leadership, study and implement Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era and the spirit of the Party's 19th National Congress while also pushing forward the implementation of the policies and decisions of the CPC Central Committee with a high standard of work, the statement said.

The Party's political building must be placed as the top priority and Party organizations should focus on self-building and fulfill their duties of governing the Party with strict discipline, the statement said.

The CPC Central Committee Secretariat should follow the leadership of the Political Bureau and the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau, focus on the main thread of studying and implementing Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era and the spirit of the CPC's 19th National Congress, assist the CPC Central Committee to push strictly governing the Party and carry out research to push the implementation of the tasks from the CPC Central Committee, the statement said.
