PYEONGCHANG - China's star skater Wu Dajing broke men's 500m short track speed skating world record in the quarterfinals of the Pyeongchang Winter Olympic Games here on Thursday.
Wu, the Sochi 2014 silver medalist, clocked 39.8 seconds in the quarterfinal, 0.137 off the previous record set by American John Celski in Calgary, Canada, in 2012.
The 23-year-old will be possibly China's last hopes of winning a gold medal at these Games.
With fours days to go at the Pyeongchang Olympics, China, next host of the Winter Olympics, is still without a gold and stands 19th on the medals table with five silver and two bronze medals.
