A group of college students from Central China's Hunan province won the championship at a video game competition held Sunday on Jeju Island, South Korea, against a South Korean team.

The Arena of Valor competition, or the international version of Honor of Kings, developed by Chinese internet giant Tencent, was part of the 2018 International Esports Festival held in Jeju.

The team, which included five students from Hunan Industry Polytechnic College, also was awarded $5,000 after they won the game.

"Esports is far more than merely playing video games," team member Chen Weijie told Changsha Evening Po. "It is teamwork that needs hard training and practice."

Honor of Kings has been popular in China.

Esports will be included in the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta, Indonesia as a demonstration sport, and is scheduled to be a medal event at the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games in Zhejiang province.
