TEHRAN -- The Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) announced on Monday that Tehran has increased the speed of low-grade uranium enrichment four times since it announced it would stop complying with parts of nuke deal last month.

"We will cross (limit of) 300 kg (for the production of low-grade enriched uranium) by June 27," Behrooz Kamalvandi, the spokesman for the AEOI told reporters on Monday.

The pace of enrichment will even be faster after that, he said.

Under the nuclear deal clinched between Iran and world's six major powers in 2015, Iran accepted to stockpile low-grade enriched uranium by 300 kg.

Kamalvandi said that Iran may also increase uranium enrichment to up to 20 percent of purity for the use in Tehran Research Reactor.

Besides, he urged the European signatories of the Iranian nuclear deal to observe their commitments to ensure Iran's economic interests under the pact.

Otherwise, he said the Islamic republic will take steps to further scale back from its nuclear obligations.

The Iranian official noted that in case parties to the nuclear deal help Iran benefit from the economic interests subject to the accord, Iran will re-embrace its commitments under the deal.

On May 8, Iran withdrew from implementing part of the landmark 2015 nuclear deal and threatened to take more actions in case Tehran's interests under the pact cannot be guaranteed.

Accordingly, Iran spared a 60-day deadline for the signatories of the nuclear deal to address Iran's interests under the deal.

The move by Iran comes after US President Donald Trump pulled Washington out of the nuclear deal in May last year and resumed energy and financial sanctions on the Islamic republic.
