Don't underestimate struggling Bayern

No other German club covers the distance from enthusiastic delight to deep crisis faster than the reigning champions Bayern Munich.

Two weeks ago, head coach Hansi Flick seemed perfect in his role as the successor to the unfortunate Niko Kovac. Four straight victories with a goal difference of +16 made him a serious option for the future.

Now the exhilarating mood has turned rather sour as the Bavarians dropped seven points behind league leaders Borussia Monchengladbach.

But is it already time to give up on this season's German title and a satisfying outcome to the 2019/20 season?

After only 14 rounds of matches, it seems hasty to accept having lost the title. There are still many reasons why Bayern can manage a successful turnaround.

After their 2-1 defeat in Monchengladbach, defender Joshua Kimmich made an urgent appeal that can be seen as a wake-up call. "The ones that haven't realized we are in the middle of a difficult situation are playing for the wrong club," the German international said.

Club legend Thomas Muller added: "If we don't improve and start winning all the remaining games before the winter break, we will have to face frosty times. It is time to react."

Bayern's squad has understood the time for excuses is over, and they can no longer blame their coach and his tactical approach for on-pitch failures.

Bayern is aware of its dependency on striker Robert Lewandowski. But the significant number of chances created by Muller, Kimmich, Serge Gnabry and others give reason to be optimistic. Bayern dominated the game in Monchengladbach for over an hour.

At present, it appears like a bold dream for Bayern to win their eighth consecutive Bundesliga title, but fans and opponents shouldn't underestimate the Bavarians' power and determination.

Catching up until the winter break is still possible. Three wins from three in the league and a satisfying performance against Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League this Wednesday will help ensure a successful restart after the winter break.

Bayern seem to have understood they will have to stick with their current coach Flick and strengthen their team spirit.

No other club has proved they can deal with tricky situations and pressure better than Bayern. But taking the current setback as a great chance to come back is a must.

The statements of Kimmich and Muller indicate the squad is ready to take the responsibility and deliver.

To regain success might be more complicated than in previous years, but it is not out of the question that Bayern will once again deliver convincing performances.
