The country's more than 60 top medical experts in Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) have been offering online consultation for patients and their parents for free during the Second ADHD Caring Week, which kicked off on Monday, doctors said during a live broadcast on Saturday.

Online education and interactivity with the public have also been offered at social platforms in order to further elevate the society's awareness and cognition toward the disease during the week jointly hosted by the China Youth Development Foundation and 12 other institutions and organizations, including China Youth Publishing Group and the Collaborating Center for Research and Training in Child Mental Health under the World Health Organization.

Organizers of the week sponsored by Xian Janssen Pharmaceuticals Ltd, a pharmaceutical subsidiary of the United States-based Johnson & Johnson in China, also said that after schools resume when the novel coronavirus epidemic subsides, they will invite the medical experts to 260 primary schools throughout the country to deliver lectures about ADHD and guide healthcare teachers and parents about preliminary screening, diagnosis and follow-up treatment about the disease.

"Through such initiatives, we're committed to promoting a better combination of medical treatment and health education in the disease area with the joint efforts of the government, hospitals, schools, scientific research institutions and social sectors to safeguard the healthy growth of children and teenagers," said Guo Meijian, Party head and chairman of the China Youth Development Foundation.

Latest official statistics in 2017 showed that the incidence rate of ADHD is more than 6 percent among minors in China, but only around one in 10 of the patients turned for medical help.
