Tang Yu lifts Beijing over Shannxi, Shandong sends Tianjin to 5th straight loss
CHENGDU - Tang Yu's career-high 26 points helped Beijing seal its fourth consecutive win over Shannxi in the fifth round of the Women's Chinese Basketball Association (WCBA) league, while Shandong humbled Tianjin 86-70 on Thursday night.
Beijing built the lead early as Shi Xiufeng chipped in five straight points. Tang's hook shot triggered a 13-2 run in the second quarter that helped put away Shannxi, who was within 45-41 midway through the third.
The game was effectively settled in the fourth quarter when Beijing's hot shooting buried Shannxi with 91-71.
Tang was 11 for 13 from field and also grabbed 10 rebounds, followed by Qi Yu's 18 points. Chen Yanyu got 21 points for Shannxi.
Facing Tianjin, Shandong took control early in the first quarter and held a 11-point advantage into the second half.
Tianjin reduced the deficit to seven with 8:26 left in the third quarter, but Shandong got aggressiveness again and outscored rivals 66-49 after a 13-4 stretch.
With Wu Qiming hitting 3-pointer for Shandong in the fourth quarter, Tianjin never got closer after that.
Shandong's Cao Junwei led the scoring with 24 points, followed by teammate Yang Hengyu's 19.
