Esports, breaking join Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games event program
HANGZHOU -- Esports and breaking have been confirmed as event program for the 19th Asian Games Hangzhou 2022 as the proposal by local organizing committee HAGOC was approved by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) on its 39th OCA General Assembly held in Muscat, Oman and online.
The two additional disciplines means Hangzhou 2022 will cover 61 disciplines across 40 sports with Esports joining as mind game while breaking classified under dance sport, according to the HAGOC, who briefed the Assembly progress on the preparations of the Games regarding venue construction, marketing, opening and closing ceremony and smart Asian Games among other issues.
"We trust you. We have confidence that with you we can deliver one of the best Asian Games," said OCA President Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah.
Breaking was added to the event program of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games earlier this month. Esports made its debut in Asiad as a demonstration event at Jakarta - Palembang 2018.
