Despite the broad challenges of COVID-19, Chinese residents are in a leading position by holding a positive attitude toward the prospects of well-being across physical, mental and social dimensions globally, a recent survey has found.

The study, conducted by Vancouver-based Lululemon Athletica Inc, the Canadian athletic apparel manufacturer, revealed an urgency to improve with only 29 percent of global respondents indicating strong well-being across physical, mental and social dimensions - punctuating the impact of the pandemic as well as social, political and environmental issues.

The survey interviewed 10,000 residents within 10 countries including the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Australia, China and Japan between Oct 12 and Nov 9 last year.

It discovered that the impact of being proactive has been seen in China, the market with the highest regional Well-being Index of 79, compared with 65 – the global average. A total of 62 percent of China's citizens were feeling well across all three dimensions.

The research also indicated strong well-being in China was supported by a proactive mindset among 78 percent of the population.

However, all age groups and geographies surveyed showed barriers to well-being — and challenges with time, stress and access to resources exposed a need for employers to better support the well-being of the workforce.

"The events of the past year brought unprecedented challenges to the physical, mental and social well-being of people worldwide," said Calvin McDonald, CEO of Lululemon, adding the company believes in a holistic approach to well-being that helps create a healthier future for all. The research will accelerate its efforts to support the well-being of the consumers it serves.
