Shandong Taishan beat Guangzhou, Cangzhou hold Henan
GUANGZHOU - Shandong Taishan beat Guangzhou 1-0, while Cangzhou Mighty Lions and Henan Songshan Longmen played out a goalless draw in the Chinese Super League (CSL) here on Tuesday.
It took Shandong until the 93rd minute to break the deadlock, with Marouane Fellaini coming off the bench to head home from Jin Jingdao's cross.
Shandong's Leonardo came close to scoring with a header in the 21st minute, but his effort was saved by Guangzhou goalkeeper Liu Dianzuo.
Guangzhou then created a good chance of their own, as Shandong keeper Wang Dalei fisted A Lan's firm shot away.
"Our goal is not to win the championship this season, but to train players to provide strength to the Chinese national team," said Guangzhou head coach Fabio Cannavaro at the post-game press conference.
In the day's other game played after heavy rain, players from both Cangzhou and Henan struggled to stay on their feet in the tricky conditions, with only one shot on target throughout the match.
The CSL's upcoming games see Shanghai Port take on Beijing Guoan on Wednesday, while Dalian Pro will face Hebei.
