Primary school in Beijing fosters Olympic spirit
Yangfangdian Central Primary School in Beijing's Haidian district has set up a classroom for ice and snow sports, spurring enthusiasm among students to participate in winter sports ahead of the Winter Olympic Games.
Lessons in ice hockey, skating and curling are provided outside the classroom in an area of more than 188 square meters with simulated ice rinks.
Zhou Chenguang, the sports teacher for fourth, fifth and sixth grades at the school, explained the rules of different events on Tuesday.
"Early in 2001, our elementary school began to explore how to be more engaged in Olympic education," said Zhou, who has taught sports for 32 years. "What we're teaching students is not only about a particular sport. We want to engrave the Olympic spirit in them so they will carry it with them through their entire life."
The school was listed in the first group of ice and snow sports schools in Beijing in 2021, the local education authority said on Tuesday.
