By Sunday, the National Speed Skating Oval, also called the "ice ribbon", had organized eight finals at the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, in which seven contestants set new records.

Without doubt the credit goes to the athletes for their achievements, but one cannot totally overlook the ice-making technology. Speed-skating can only be done on extremely flat ice surfaces, and the lesser the difference in temperature between ice and the surface above, the flatter the ice remains, making skating easier.

In order to better serve athletes, the NSSO for the first time made use of carbon dioxide ice-making technology. The new technology has raised the efficiency by over 20 percent, limiting the difference in temperature to within 0.5 C. Further, the whole process is green, with near-zero carbon emissions involved.

That is why the NSSO's ice surface is called "the fastest ice". The technology has not only caught the attention of other ice stadiums in the world, but also set a glorious example for the whole world to adopt and reverse climate change. Swedish athlete Nils van der Poel, who broke a world record in speed skating, spoke highly of the "ice ribbon", saying it was, perhaps, the best stadium he has skated in.

The Beijing Winter Olympic Games has helped the world to know more about Chinese technology, "fastest ice" being just one of them. Eye-catching special effects were on display during the opening ceremony, there are robots who can cook in the canteens, shuttles taking athletes from one place to another and a high-speed railway linking Beijing with its co-host city, Zhangjiakou.

The global media is all praise for these environmentally friendly technologies. A website based in Spain said that from automated driving to the digital renminbi, China is displaying all its achievements at the Winter Olympics.

As a sport event featuring the most advanced technology, the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics is showcasing the fruits of decades of innovation. The whole world should benefit from it and strive for a better future together.
