China's largest Q&A platform Zhihu aims to cultivate more than 500 content creators whose income will exceed 1 million yuan over the next three years, as it steps up efforts to tap into China's burgeoning knowledge-sharing market.

Zhou Yuan, founder and chief executive officer of Zhihu, said in a public letter it is Zhihu's long-term strategy to focus on professional discussions and support creators in various fields and create value for the users.

Founded in 2011, the Quora-like knowledge-sharing platform is no longer a simple follower of the foreign trendsetter. Fueled by a growing number of experts in various fields, Zhihu has been actively embracing the paid content boom across the nation, extending to far more areas such as offering audio and video courses and e-books.

Zhou said the company will unveil a new app designed for vocational education next month.

What the company wants to build is "not just a platform", but a way to use technology to promote the digital transformation of education, Zhou said, adding it aims to work with more institutions to boost efficiency with technologies, content ecosystems and technical support.
