The Pingtan Comprehensive Experimental Zone in Fujian province introduced a complete process medical service for Taiwan residents on Nov 26.

In September of this year, the State Council issued a document proposing to improve the institutional guarantees for Taiwan compatriots in Fujian regarding employment, medical care and elderly care. Pingtan, the closest mainland location to the island of Taiwan and a vibrant area for cross-Strait exchanges, has established a cross-Strait integrated medical service brand.

The Taiwan compatriot service center assists Taiwan residents in completing documentation, handling procedures and provides mailing services. The Pingtan Branch of the Concord Hospital has formed a medical team of eight doctors from Taiwan, offering consultation, diagnosis, physiotherapy and accompanying services to Taiwan residents.

Pan Jie, in charge of the Pingtan Branch of Concord Hospital, said the Taiwan compatriot service center integrates four major functions: medical guidance, payment and recharge, medical insurance settlement, and Taiwan health insurance materials collection. This initiative breaks down barriers among departments, providing Taiwan compatriots with one-stop comprehensive services.

"I originally thought that the reimbursement process for medical expenses on the mainland for Taiwan compatriots would be complex, and I needed to return to Taiwan to handle that. Now it is convenient to have a one-stop 'diagnosis and settlement' service," said Taiwan resident Cheng Hui-chun.

Chen Chunmei, deputy director of the social affairs bureau of the Pingtan Comprehensive Experimental Zone, said they will continue to advance the medical personnel exchange and medical resources sharing, and enhance the medical experience for Taiwan compatriots on the mainland.
