State Grid Taizhou Power Supply Co organized a line operation and inspection on Kuocang Mountain very recently in order to prevent hazards like line breakages and swaying and ensure the safe operation of the power lines during cold weather.

"Upon receiving the cold wave warning, our first thought was of Kuocang Mountain. The terrain here is high, densely forested and windy, bringing challenges for the safe operation of power lines," said Xie, a technician from State Grid Taizhou Power Supply Co who was in charge of the clearance task.

With the onslaught of a cold wave, Kuocang Mountain in Linhai, Zhejiang province, welcomed its first frost of this winter, with temperatures plummeting to a yearly low of -11.4 C.

Temperatures in the area around Kuocang Mountain, the highest peak in southeastern Zhejiang, are usually 8 to 10 degrees lower than the urban areas throughout the year, making it the first local area to face the brunt of the cold wave annually.

"We needed to clear the ice from the trees alongside the lines to prevent the branches from bending or breaking and falling onto the lines," Xie said, adding that his main task is to use drones to inspect all the lines and iron towers on the mountain.

With the gradual expansion of mountain-top homestays in the past few years, the number of tourists visiting and staying on the mountain has been increasing every year.

Considering the rapid depletion of electric vehicle batteries in cold weather, to ensure that car owners on the mountain could charge their vehicles, State Power staff members have also inspected and performed maintenance on the public charging stations to prevent any possible risks.

"All necessary repair materials, including wires and transformers, were fully stocked and prepared for any unforeseen accidents, ensuring a stable power grid and a warm winter," said a staff member from the State Grid Taizhou Power Supply Co.
