'AI theft' charge does not hold water

US media outlets are repeating their old lies without providing a shred of evidence when they claim that China "steals AI secrets to turbocharge spying". The charge has no basis in facts.

The US media seems to have a fantasy about China hacking into US networks, a narrative they began fabricating as early as the late 2010s. Now, several years later, US media outlets are still making groundless claims about China, endorsed by some US politicians, this time involving AI.

The fact is, as stated repeatedly by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, China has never hacked into any US system or stolen any information or technology. How in the world can the US come up with "solid evidence" about something that never happened? No matter how hard the fabricators try, it is mission impossible.

The US media outlets are right about one thing, though, that China's influence in AI has grown to make it formidable.

In the last decade China has developed advanced AI technologies and applied them to autonomous driving, image recognition, chatting tools and gaming software. However, China is making giant strides in AI thanks to the efforts of more than one generation of Chinese scientists.

The US may view China's progress as "formidable", but it is unbecoming of such a powerful country to bad-mouth this formidable player, let alone fabricate lies about it. Instead, it could cooperate with China to promote a technology that can benefit the two countries.
