Fujian urged to play a greater role in promoting peaceful cross-Strait relations
Song Tao, the Chinese mainland's senior Taiwan affairs official, on Tuesday called for increased efforts to develop East China's Fujian province into a demonstration zone for integrated development across the Taiwan Strait, promoting peaceful cross-Strait relations and a great example for the cause of national reunification.
Song, who heads both the Taiwan Work Office of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, made the remarks at a meeting in Beijing involving 48 central departments, as well as officials from Fujian.
The meeting discussed policies proposed by Fujian for support from central authorities and outlined key tasks for the next steps to further advance the implementation of the documents supporting Fujian's exploration of new pathways for integrated development across the Taiwan Strait, which were introduced by the central government last year.
