Russian technology firm Yandex has unveiled its in-vehicle infotainment platform at the Auto Shanghai 2025, targeting Chinese automakers eyeing expansion into Russia and Central Asia's Russian-speaking markets.

The platform, branded Yandex Auto Service, offers automakers a turnkey, localized solution that combines voice-activated convenience with seamless integration of Yandex's core services.

Designed for both drivers and passengers, the system features Alisa, Yandex's AI assistant, and provides access to navigation, music, audiobooks, weather, browsing and more — all through voice interaction.

Russia is emerging as a new destination for China's vehicle exports. Last year, sales of Chinese-branded vehicles in the country totaled 1.07 million units, accounting for 58 percent of total vehicle sales in Russia, according to the China Passenger Car Association.

Zhou Tian, senior business director for Yandex Auto China, said 47 percent of Russian consumers would consider buying a Chinese car as their next vehicle, and 67 percent want to learn more about Chinese brands.

"Russia and Central Asia demand intelligent, localized technologies," said Zhou. "Integrating our services helps automakers save time and cost while offering buyers an experience that feels native," he said.

Yandex, a dominant digital player in the region, aims to meet that demand. With more than 70 million monthly active users, Alisa is the leading voice assistant in Russia.

It is powered by Yandex GPT, a proprietary large language model optimized for the Russian language and cultural context.

Alisa supports natural voice commands and can carry out tasks such as adjusting lights, opening windows, unlocking doors, enabling massage functions, or heating the steering wheel and seats — even without an internet connection.

It also integrates with Yandex's smart home ecosystem, allowing users to issue remote commands like, "Alisa, start the car," before leaving home, or to turn on an apartment's air conditioning and kettle while commuting.

Zhou said it has already partnered with several car manufacturers and is actively seeking additional collaborations.

"With our proven track record and local brand recognition, we can help Chinese automakers gain traction in Russia and beyond," Zhou said.
