As spring unfolds, green tea in Haiyang, a coastal city in Yantai, Shandong province, has begun to sprout tender new leaves, marking the start of this year's first round of harvesting.

Haiyang is known for being one of the northernmost regions in China where tea is cultivated. Its green tea is celebrated for its thick leaves and rich content of organic and inorganic compounds, giving it a fresh, aromatic taste. The saying "high latitude, low altitude, golden coast produces fine tea" aptly describes the unique natural advantages of the region.

The favorable conditions have helped make tea farming a vital source of income for local villagers. Today, the village boasts over 300 mu (20 hectares) of tea plantations, providing a stable livelihood for many families, government data showed.

To support the industry's sustainable growth, Yantai has been enhancing power services to promote the green development of Haiyang's tea sector and help farmers increase their incomes. Recently, staff members from the State Grid Yantai Power Supply Co visited key electricity areas in the lush tea gardens of Houwanghai village to provide on-site maintenance services.

Services included inspections on power distribution lines, transformer loads, air switches, and knife switches, and more, said the company. By diagnosing potential issues in control boxes and other devices, it aims to ensure a safe and reliable power supply throughout the critical spring harvest season, it said.
