Cooperation among Global South nations is more vital than ever amid unprecedented global challenges, experts and officials said during a roundtable discussion at the 11th China and Globalization Forum.

The forum, featuring six roundtable discussions, one sub-forum and field visits, was held in Beijing from May 22 to 24. It brought together about 300 government officials, foreign diplomats, business executives and academic experts from 60 countries to discuss pressing global issues.

"In a world facing geopolitical tensions, economic uncertainties, and urgent environmental challenges, the voices from the Global South are more crucial than ever in building a more inclusive and sustainable international system," said Wang Huiyao, president of the Center for China and Globalization, during the roundtable session on Thursday, themed "Reshaping frameworks for Global Governance: The role of China and the Global South".

Speakers emphasized that China and other Global South countries hold significant potential in fostering a more balanced global order that prioritizes development, cooperation and mutual respect.

Unal Cevikoz, former member of the Turkish Parliament, said, "The Global South countries, under the leadership of China, can reshape norms and policies to better serve their interests, focusing on development rather than on the conditionalities often imposed by Western nations."

Participants also praised the achievements of South-South cooperation in areas such as infrastructure, energy and technology, while calling for deeper collaboration.

"China's Belt and Road Initiative is deeply significant for Turkey, as it enhances infrastructure development and connectivity between Asia, Europe and beyond," said Cevikoz. "This initiative can serve as a blueprint for fostering economic cooperation among Global South nations."

Khalid Emara, former assistant foreign minister of Egypt, emphasized the role of cultural exchanges in South-South cooperation. "It's very important because this is about understanding. It's about creating bridges between people around the world," he said.
