"It's 10 times better than any air-conditioned room," said Zhang Guangwen, a tourist from Fujian province. Visitors relax by creekside tea picnics or hunt for crabs and gemstones with their children.
"Weekend crowds have surged since the tourist highway opened," said Qiao Haokang, the scenic area's marketing director.
In Qiongzhong, travelers explore Hainan's tea culture at homestays like Shan You Ju, where guests pick tea leaves and savor Li ethnic dishes. "Many come just to roast their own tea," said Zeng Xiaoling, a local guide.
