Jiang Chaoliang, a former senior national legislator, has been expelled from the Communist Party of China and dismissed from public office after an investigation found he committed serious violations, according to a decision made by China's top anti-corruption watchdogs.

The decision was released online by the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Commission of Supervision on Monday.

The commission found that Jiang, 68, accepted banquet invitations and travel arrangements that could have potentially affected the impartial execution of his official duties, and engaged in superstitious activities.

He violated regulations by accepting gifts and cash, borrowing vehicles from individuals he managed or served, and having others pay for expenses that he should have covered himself, the commission noted.

They also found that he was heavily involved in trading power for money and engaging in familial corruption, and that he accepted large sums of money and valuables after using his positions to benefit others in various matters such as business operations, loan approvals, project contracting and job promotions.

The commissions pointed out that Jiang had severely violated the Party's disciplines and was suspected of duty-related crimes, leading to the decision to expel him from the Party, remove him from public office and confiscate his illicit gains.

His case will be referred to prosecutors for further review, they added.

Public information shows that Jiang, a native of Hunan province, began his career in December 1974 and joined the Party in May 1981. He spent decades in the country's banking sector before becoming vice-governor of Hubei province in 2002.

In 2014, he transitioned to Jilin province as governor, and two years later, he became Party secretary of Hubei.

In 2021, he began his work at the Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee of the National People's Congress, China's top legislature.

He was placed under investigation in February. Before the probe, he was also a member of the NPC Standing Committee.
