Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Thursday that China stands ready to work with Ethiopia to strengthen mutual support, better align development strategies, and deepen exchanges on governance, as the two countries seek to advance their all-weather strategic partnership.

Wang made the remarks during a meeting with Ethiopia's Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed in Addis Ababa, during the first stop of his six-day visit to Africa.

During the talks, Wang stressed the importance of jointly implementing the outcomes of the 2024 Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, and of making full use of China's zero-tariff policy for products from African countries that have diplomatic relations with China.

He called for enhanced cooperation in areas including infrastructure development, green industries, and the digital economy, and for the promotion of high-quality Belt and Road cooperation.

Wang also expressed hope that Ethiopia will provide a favorable environment for Chinese companies wanting to invest and operate there.

China is ready to continue advancing the Outlook for Peace and Development initiative for the Horn of Africa, and to play a constructive role in promoting regional peace, stability and mutually beneficial development, Wang said.

He also voiced China's expectation that Ethiopia, as a major African country, will play a greater role in regional and international affairs.

Abiy reaffirmed Ethiopia's firm adherence to the one-China principle, and said his country is ready to maintain close high-level exchanges with China while expanding practical cooperation in areas including infrastructure, new energy, artificial intelligence, and maritime affairs. He also emphasized his country's willingness to strengthen mutual support with China on regional and global issues.

On the same day, Wang also held talks with Ethiopia's Foreign Minister Gedion Timothewos.
