To showcase the rich heritage and artistic vitality of Chinese literature to the world, the International Department of the China Writers Association and China Daily have jointly launched the Chinese Literature Special Section on the China Daily website (www.aigou888.cn/culture/cnliterature). The platform, which officially went live in mid-January 2026, connects outstanding Chinese writers with international readers, shares China's stories through literature, and promotes mutual learning and people-to-people connectivity.

China boasts a rich literary tradition, with a civilization spanning over 5,000 years. From oracle bones, bronze and stone inscriptions to silk manuscripts and Han (206 BC-220) bamboo slips, from The Book of Songs and The Songs of Chu to Tang poetry and Song lyrics, and from Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) novels to modern and contemporary works, Chinese literature has evolved through an unbroken tradition that embodies the core values and humanistic spirit of the Chinese people. It is not only cherished by Chinese-speaking readers worldwide, but has also been translated into many languages, becoming a shared spiritual treasure for readers across the globe.

In recent years, with the support of Chinese and international writers, sinologists, and literature enthusiasts, the China Writers Association has established a series of international platforms to promote the global communication of Chinese literature, winning widespread acclaim from readers both at home and abroad. The International Youth Poetry Festival has brought together poets and guests from around the world, making poetry a golden bond connecting people's hearts across nations. The Chinese Literature Readers' Club has reached readers in more than 20 countries and organized over 200 literary promotion events overseas. The online literature market has exceeded 5 billion yuan($717 million), with more than 350 million users across over 200 countries and regions. The Literary Network of the Belt and Road has attracted writers and literary organizations from 44 countries, contributing to the implementation of the Global Civilization Initiative.

The Chinese Literature Special Section will showcase contributions from Chinese and international writers, critics, renowned scholars, and representatives of literary organizations from various countries, presenting the long-standing tradition and latest achievements of Chinese literature in vivid and multidimensional ways. Tailored to international audiences, the Special Section will feature multiple formats, including articles, images and video interviews, and develop a series of signature columns such as Events, Literary Voices, Between Pages, Around China with Writers, and the Chinese Literature Readers' Club. It will report on the latest developments in Chinese literature, organize in-depth interviews with writers, introduce outstanding literary works, and showcase China stories from writers' perspectives, building a bridge for interaction and exchange between Chinese and international readers and presenting a comprehensive view of the achievements and contemporary vitality of Chinese literature. The section will also be optimized for mobile devices, allowing readers to access a library of Chinese literature at their fingertips, and enjoy the beauty of Chinese writing on the go.

The launch of the Chinese Literature Special Section will not only expand the scope and depth of China's international literary communication, but also provide global readers with rich, timely, and reliable reading resources, helping them experience the creative vitality of contemporary Chinese literature and the intellectual spirit of Chinese writers. Furthermore, the section will work in coordination with the new media networks of Chinese Literature Readers' Club in different countries to facilitate cross-border, cross-platform, and multilingual communication. The International Department of the China Writers Association is currently inviting international communication project applications from Chinese and international literary organizations and publishing institutions (English link: http://www.aigou888.cn/a/202601/20/WS696ef7baa310d6866eb34b83.html Chinese link: https://www.chinawriter.com.cn/n1/2026/0114/c403937-40645151.html), and welcomes eligible institutions to apply and jointly support the global promotion of Chinese literature.
