The Lotus global smart factory in Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WEDZ) has unveiled the Eletre, the world's first all-electric hyper-SUV, mirroring the new ride of King Charles III of the United Kingdom.

The custom version acquired by King Charles III features components sourced from China, with Lotus technicians traveling to Norfolk to assist in assembly and testing at the local Lotus facility.

The Eletre boasts a number of advanced features, including an acceleration from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in just 2.95 seconds, a braking distance of less than 33 meters from 100 km/h, and exceptional handling thanks to its aerodynamic design and active anti-roll system.

The 8-billion-yuan ($1.16 billion) factory is the first globally to implement 3D digital twin technology throughout its processes. Its highly flexible production lines can adapt to produce various model configurations, supporting high-end private customizations.

In the assembly workshop, AGV trolleys glide across the floor like pangolins, enhancing efficiency. "These AGV trolleys transport car parts, reducing manual labor and significantly improving assembly precision," says Zhao Song, the factory's deputy general manager.

Earlier this year, Canada reduced tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles from 100 percent to just 6.1 percent, providing a major boost for Lotus models certified for North America.

The factory also mass-produces the Emeya, a luxury sports sedan. Lotus vehicles are currently sold in over 40 countries and regions, with more than 200 global stores, covering markets in China, Europe, and the Middle East.

In the near future, Lotus plans to launch a new PHEV hybrid SUV, "For Me", targeting markets in China, Europe, and the Asia-Pacific region.
