China opposes force, calls for dialogue on Iran situation
China has expressed opposition to the use or threat of force in international relations regarding the situation in Iran, saying that it hopes the various parties will resolve their differences through dialogue.
Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning made the remarks on Thursday when asked whether China would join Russia in supporting Teheran if the United States were to attack Iran.
China is following developments closely, Mao said, adding that Beijing advocates resolving issues through political and diplomatic channels.
Noting that the Chinese and Iranian peoples enjoy traditional friendship, she said China supports the Iranian government and its people in safeguarding national stability and their legitimate rights and interests.
"We hope that all parties will cherish peace, exercise restraint and solve disputes through dialogue," Mao said.
She added that China is prepared to continue playing its role as a responsible major country.
