As temperatures rise in Huocheng county of the Ili Kazak autonomous prefecture, Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, local herders have started their annual spring migration from winter pastures to spring pastures.
To ensure a smooth and safe transition, staff from local animal husbandry departments and township governments have been accompanying herders in groups to provide support services. Two transit points have been set up along the route to offer free assistance and emergency medical care for herders, as well as fodder supplies for the livestock.
This year, nearly 400 herding households across the county are relocating more than 110,000 head of livestock. The spring migration is expected to be completed by the end of March.
