Motorola launches new research center(Xinhua)Updated: 2006-11-15 11:23 US telecom giant Motorola Inc announced in Beijing Tuesday to launch a research center in China targeting next-generation wireless broadband technologies. The center would focus on key technologies in future wireless broadband equipment and help the company to develop global standards in this area. Gregory Brown, executive vice president of Motorola, said that as China strives for an active role in development and standard making in the future mobile communications, Motorola hopes to strengthen cooperation with its Chinese partners on this. Brown did not tell how much they plan to invest in the new center and how many engineers it would recruit, but saying that the center would provide professional technical support to its Chinese business section. The new center would also help to boost Motorola's cooperation with local universities and companies, said Brown. China set up a forum organization on future mobile communication last year, aiming to promote research and development of post-3G technologies. Motorola is one of the initiators. Motorola has 18 research centers in China with about 3,000 engineers, making it the largest R&D base by multi-nationals in China. (For more biz stories, please visit Industry Updates)
