State Grid develops electric cars

State Grid Corporation of China is developing electric-powered vehicles for its power projects all over China. The corporation chose several regions including Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Shandong, Zhejiang, Hubei and Hunan to carry out its pilot projects.

 

After establishing an internal electric network, State Grid will replace 1,979 vehicles with electric-powered ones in the next four years. At the end of the 11th Five-Year Program period (2006-2010), 4,200 electric buses will run on 420 public transportation routes in the pilot regions. Another 535 electric taxis will also be put on the roads.

 

To satisfy the increasing needs of electric cars, State Grid will speed up its pace of building charging stations and standardize power chargers. Moreover, the company will set up a charging station network around venues of the 2008 Beijing Olympics and the 2010 Shanghai World Expo to serve these vehicles and future networks.
