Want a baby? Maybe!

career. But I think to give birth to a child and bring him or her up is too huge
a responsibility and the process can sometimes be painful and costly. I don't
think I'm prepared for that. Maybe I'm a bit selfish, but people in today's
society are really paying more attention to establishing themselves and to
self-satisfaction."
Huang Ye is a psychiatrist at Beijing's Yu Xin Yuan Psycho-Counseling Center.
"Society is now open to more ideas and work is no longer an obligation for
women. Life is really colorful and young people have more ways to have fun. So
young women tend to enjoy life before they decide to face the responsibility of
motherhood. And sometimes unhappy childhood memories can also make women
hesitate on pregnancy."
 Though many women have misgivings before having a
baby, the satisfaction of being a mother often exceeds their expectations.
Xiaoyun says she never regrets giving up her promotion to give birth to her
daughter.
"To have my baby, my career development had to be delayed a bit. But compared
to my life as a whole, that one or two years is really nothing. I feel I've
matured and become complete now that I'm a mother. The sense of satisfaction I
feel as a mother is totally incomparable."
Now Xiaoyun runs her own websites. As she talks, she can't hide her pride of
being both a successful career woman and a happy mother.
So if you are young, energetic and don't want to be bothered by a baby, just
go ahead and enjoy your life. But if you think being a mother makes a woman
complete, doctors suggest not delaying pregnancy too long. Increasing age means
increasing potential health risks for both mother and child, and decreasing the
probability of getting pregnant.
