Foreign media have reported that organs for transplant in China have been taken from executed criminals, but the Ministry of Health has repeatedly denied the claim, saying such reports were "untrue" and "malicious slander" of China's judiciary system.

"Most organs in China have been voluntarily donated by ordinary citizens on their deaths, and a small number from executed criminals who voluntarily signed donation approvals," ministry spokesman Mao Qun'an previously said.

On Saturday, another regulation came into effect aimed at banning the uploading and downloading of Internet material without the copyright holder's permission.

Under the regulation on protecting rights of information on the Internet, anyone who uploads texts, sound or video recordings onto the Web, must acquire the permission of the copyright owners and pay the required fee.

The production, import and supply of devices that are capable of evading copyright protection are prohibited under the regulation.

China is the world's second-largest Internet market after the United States, with more than 110 million users.
