December 1996: President Jiang Zemin pays a state visit to Pakistan, during which the two countries decided to establish a comprehensive partnership.

2001: Premier Zhu Rongji visits Pakistan in May and Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf pays a state visit to China in December.

May 2003: Pakistani Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali pays an official visit to China.

November 2003, President Hu Jintao holds talks with Pakistani President Musharraf in Beijing.

April 2005: Premier Wen Jiabao pays a three-day visit to Pakistan, the first stop in his South Asian tour. Wen's visit aims to further strengthen the friendship and strategic partnership between the two countries

In 2005, the trade volume between the two countries exceeded US$4.3 billion, a year-on-year increase of 39 per cent. Bilateral trade could reach US$15 billion within five years.
