No plan on property tax in 2 years - SAT(CRI)
Updated: 2008-02-14 15:27 China has no plans to charge property tax in the next two years, Guangzhou Daily reported on Thursday, citing the State Administration of Taxation (SAT). A few days ago, many reports said that Beijing's local taxation bureau and some other local tax authorities had submitted applications to the SAT to formally impose property tax. If approved, the new policy will take effect starting as soon as this June. Towards those reports, an official with SAT clarified that the new policy on property tax would not be announced this year, not even in the next two years, because this kind of tax involves many complicated details. He added, as the real estate department, financial department and tax department currently can not share information through the internet, charging property tax is impossible at the moment. According to media report, pilot operation, which only calculates property tax but not really collects the tax, was initially launched in 2005 in the cities of Beijing, Shenzhen and Chongqing, and cities in Liaoning and Jiangsu provinces and Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region before it was extended to cover broader areas. |
