A: TV broadcasting technology appeared at the New York Expo in 1939.

On April 30, then US President Franklin D Roosevelt gave the opening day speech at the Fair and, as a reflection of the wide range of technological innovation available, his words were broadcast on various radio networks and on TV. An estimated 1,000 people watched the telecast from about 200 TV sets scattered throughout New York.

This broadcast had a dramatic effect on TV sales. In the following months, more than 1,000 sets would be sold in London alone.
