Students told to respect ethnic groups

BEIJING ?--Chinese Vice Premier Hui Liangyu told students to respect, enjoy and learn from the cultures of all ethnic groups with an "open and rational attitude" on Saturday during a meeting on the 60th anniversary of Minzu University, which was founded specifically as a higher-education institute for China's ethnic minorities.
Hui hailed the university's significant contributions in pushing forward the development of ethnic regions and boosting ethnic education and unity.
"Institutions of higher learning for ethnic groups have a very important role in our country's education and the entire education system...they should seek to improve overall qualities by developing their own character and nourishing more talent," Hui said.
Hui stressed that a high-quality teaching team is essential for the smooth operation of an ethnic university. He urged teachers in these schools to maintain professional ethics and morality and set an example for ethnic unity while striving for their students' future development.
Hui called for a sound working and living environment for teachers to bring out their full potential and creativity in teaching and scientific research.
