BEIJING - A campaign aimed to strengthen ties between the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the public should be properly implemented, senior CPC leader Liu Yunshan has urged.

Liu, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, made the comments at the first meeting of the campaign's leading team on Tuesday. Liu is head of the team.

CPC officials and members should make more down-to-earth efforts in learning real social situations from the grassroots, hear more opinions from the public, and wake up to the existing problems, Liu said.

He called on relevant officials to intensify the direction and coordination during the campaign and make sure CPC Central Committee instructions are fully implemented.

Concrete measures should be taken to carry out the campaign in a healthy, in-depth, and effective manner, Liu said, noting that the campaign matters to the bond between the CPC and the people as well as the public support to the Party.

The campaign is also important for the Party to run itself with strict discipline as well as for the realization of the "Chinese dream" of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, Liu said.

The CPC Central Committee attaches great importance to the campaign and General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee Xi Jinping has also made several instructions regarding this activity, Liu said.

A CPC Central Committee Political Bureau conference decided last month to launch the campaign.

The campaign aims to win public trust and support as well as consolidate the CPC's position as the country's governing party, according to a statement made at the conference, which was presided over by Xi.

The statement stressed that the Party must focus on the need to serve the people and be down-to-earth, honest and upright in conduct so as to keep its advanced nature and purity.

The campaign will begin later in the year.
