A former tax official in Zhuhai, Guangdong province, has been sentenced to 11 years in prison for receiving 800,000 yuan ($128,510) to help others evade taxes, New Express reported on Wednesday.

Xie, who used to be an official at the city's financial bureau and director of the city's farmland occupation tax and deed tax collection center, helped others pay less tax than owed from 2009 to 2012 and received payment from them.

Zhuhai Intermediate People's Court issued the verdict recently along with confiscation of 80,000 yuan of Xie's property.
