Tianjin was approved to be the eighth state-level pilot city for cross-border e-commerce services on Friday.

The General Administration of Customs, China's customs watchdog, announced in a statement that the northern port city will enjoy favorable tax policies when it comes to cross-border e-commerce.

The announcement means that the city's e-commerce enterprises can settle currency exchange in a more efficient manner and get tax refunds for retail sales to overseas buyers.

For example, e-commerce enterprises used to fail to get tax refunds if they delivered products to overseas buyers by personal mail. Now they are able to add up the deals in a month and report the total to the city's customs administration to claim the tax refunds monthly.

The services are already running in seven cities across China, such as Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Zhengzhou.

Meantime, the customs authority said Tianjin will be the last city in China to enjoy such favorable tax polices before it rolls out a national-level tax scheme for cross-border e-commerce.
