Meetings that mean trouble

Comment on "Shangri-La has changed and Tibetans know it" (China Daily, Dec 8)

Some Western politicians and some of the media outlets that are ignorant of reality make trouble. Their voices should simply be ignored.

Wang Wei

It appeared French President Nicolas Sarkozy insisted on meeting the separatist monk to create trouble for China both covertly and overtly. Sarkozy should be responsible for the damage in Sino-French ties.

Chinese leaders never make a point to hold high-profile meetings with those who promote separatism in other countries.

This difference in behavior is due to China's long-standing principles of mutual respect between nations and non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries.

Welcome fuel tax

Comment on "China unveils scheme for fuel tax reform" (China Daily, Dec 5)

I think it's fair to levy tax on oil consumption. The more the oil consumption, the more money you pay.

Maybe this policy will be fresh burden on oil consumers, but it can enhance the consciousness about protecting environment and improving the efficiency of oil consumption.

It sounds like a good policy. It's convenient for drivers.

Furthermore, drivers will pay for maintenance and support of the country's road system in accordance with their use.

Not only for Olympic Games

Comment on "More of blue sky" (China Daily, Dec 3)

Most of us are expecting more of blue sky. But the current situation needs to be improved, despite the fact that Beijing now has had the highest number of days with blue sky and clear air in the past 10 years.

Our government should take action to protect the environment, aiming at the ultimate success of combating pollution. This goal cannot have been just for the Olympic Games. We hope environment protection will become one of the important legacies of the Games, and that both our government and residents can make contributions to environmental protection.

Result of sanctions

Comment on "Zimbabwe to introduce 200m-dollar note" (China Daily website, Dec 7)

Don't be too hard on the Zimbabweans. Its all a result of the sanctions imposed on it by ex-colonialists. On the other hand, if the Americans go on printing more and more greenbacks, the world may face notes of huge amounts too.
