Online TV programs boom amid control concerns

TV drama rattles notions about US politics

Film actress Jordana Brewster made her jump from "Fast and Furious 6" to starring in the television reboot of the show "Dallas".

"I already have. I'm on Dallas right now. I love TV. TV's really fun because you get to work every single day and the writing's really good. I'm obsessed with 'True Detective' and shows that are on Netfilx right now. The writing has just gotten better and better," Brewster said.

Actor Charlie Hunnam spoke about his more traditional path going from his hit TV show "Sons of Anarchy" to starring in the blockbuster film "Pacific Rim", which had a worldwide box office of over $400 million.

"I've been in Hollywood now 16 years and when I first came here – I don't know the exact numbers – but it was like 3,000 movie a year were getting made and now it's closer to, like, 250, 300 movies. It's a huge reduction. It just seems like there was a bit of a migration from film to TV with the same quality. I think film used to be so much higher quality than TV is but I think that's not really the case anymore," Hunnam said.

"There's so many talented people and original stories being told that it's really exciting times for TV and I was really happy and feel grateful that I had the opportunity to have done the show that I've been doing for the last six year."

Even those known predominantly behind the scenes, like Oscar nominated director Guillermo del Toro, have made the jump to television with a new horror series on FX.

"I did TV back in my country. TV requires a different sense of speed. You need to shoot in about less than a third or a quarter than you would shoot in a movie. So you need to be fast but you need to be very ambitious. So I'm very ambitious with a TV show, trying to bring a big budget – big movie value - to the screen and a story that can cross a few barriers with horror. It's a horror story and hopefully it will be well received," Toro said.
