The siren song of memories

Li Baiming's solo exhibition Hometown displays 20 of his latest ink-and-water paintings, in which he applies only black and white to recreate memories of his hometown. With a great passion for detail, he illustrates empty streets and bicycles as well as age-old houses covered by snow. He brings out viewers' nostalgia for their hometowns and a mixed feeling of loneliness, warmth and tranquility.

Posthumous show for Chen Yifei

An exhibition at Long Museum presents the work of deceased artist Chen Yifei, showing he was a multi - media visual artist, rather than just a painter. The exhibition features nine oil paintings, a 3.5-meter-tall sculpture, as well as documents about his other endeavors in visual art: filmmaking, magazine publishing and fashion design.

Retrospective of oil painting

The exhibition Chinese Oil Painting in the Past 100 Years arrives in Beijing, following its showing in Guangzhou, Wuhan, Shanghai and Jinan. On display are 150 oil paintings from 50 well-known Chinese oil painters of different generations, showing the development of oil painting in China since it was introduced by the West in the 19th century.

Music breaks boundaries

Italian pianist Alessandro Marangoni and jazz musician Alessandro Cerino will attempt to blur the boundaries between classical and jazz music in their upcoming concert. Born in 1979, Marangoni is best recognized for his interpretation of Rossini’s works. Cerino has worked as a composer and instrumentalist during his 30-year career, which has also seen him delve into Chinese fi lm soundtracks in recent years.

Show asks: What is an artist?

Luo Wei's current show at Amy Li Gallery presents her paintings and multimedia installations that try to answer the question: What do we talk about when we talk about artists? In her latest series, she tries to dissociate emotions, feelings, morals and existing rules and observe people from a passerby's perspective. She places these figures in various settings to reinterpret the relationship between men and women, people and nature. Crystal Planet, a theater-like installation, is an avant-garde project that invites people to become an actor and establish connections of consciousness with others.
