During the daytime there are many attractions for visitors to Pinyao. In the heart of the city is Ming-Qing Street, lined with gift shops selling a variety of souvenirs. At the center stands a tower, the tallest structure in the city and a miraculous viewing point.

Off to one side is the county government office, where justice was delivered in days past. A museum delivers abundant information and insight about the justice system of its day.

One drink unique to Pingyao is a variation of the famous Chinese spirit baijiu, distilled with a lemon base. But if you prefer the original, you can always find it at a shop nearby. Street food is also around every corner and comes at an affordable price. There is a tasty bread stand that grills bread in a stone bowl over hot rocks. The leavened bread tastes like Indian nan and is a delightful treat after a night out on the town. The busy streets and lively atmosphere add to the city’s charm and provide the best way to enjoy the night.

Pingyao is one of China's best-kept secrets. It is highly regarded as a domestic tourist destination filled with marvelous wonders of ancient China.
