Zhao Haifeng, deputy secretary of Fenghuang county, spoke at the opening ceremony of the fifth edition of the festival. He said the local government hoped to protect and develop the Miao's cultural heritage through holding the event.

"From the Miao's beautiful dress and silver jewelry, we can learn that Miao people are always looking forward to beauty and art in life, even some of them are in a hard life. It is a commendable mental attitude to people in all nationalities," he said.
