A cleaner said she swallowed several pills in shame at being asked to undress to prove she had not stolen money from a flat in the residential complex where she worked, reports Oriental Morning Post.

At about 4:30 am on Monday, Wang (not her real name) was found crying on the job.

When asked why, she said the occupant of apartment 102 accused her of having stolen money from his flat and asked her to remove her shirt and trousers to prove that she was not hiding it on her person.

Afterwards, Wang swallowed nearly an entire bottle of pills. She then rushed to the door of the same apartment crying, "You shamed me and I will die."

Wang was later sent to hospital where she recovered.

Jia, the occupant of apartment 102, said he had not asked Wang to undress but that when she did anyway, he did not stop her.
