Quick court dissolves marriages in 30 mins ( 2003-09-17 14:53) (China Daily)
Half an hour is all it takes for a couple to be divorced if there are no disagreements about the division of property or child custody, Beijing Star Daily reports. The information was revealed at a press conference held to mark the first anniversary of the Dongcheng Simplified Civil Court. Xiao Yan, the deputy dean, said that the simplified civil court emphasizes "convenience and quickness". From start to finish, the average divorce case takes around 30 minutes to complete. Since last September, the court has accepted and heard more than 1,000 cases, of which 90 per cent were for the dissolution of marriages. And only two have yet to be closed. People who have gone through the court also think highly of the system's efficiency, saying a simplified procedure encourages greater respect for personal rights and interests.
