Marriage, divorce made easier

It is possible to marry and
divorce on the same day after new regulations on marriage registration went into
effect on October 1, Beijing Evening Post reports.
According to staff in the civil administration department of Dongcheng
District, one couple did exactly that during the National Day holiday.
The couple, who lived together for more than 20 years, insisted on a divorce
for unknown reasons. As they were cohabitating before, they had to register a
marriage first and then applied for a divorce.
Haidian District witnessed a record number of 1,171 marriages and 60 couples
during the holiday period.
