Stubborn patient causes own death

An elderly woman is to blame
for the fall that killed her in hospital, according to the court, Shanghai
Morning Post reports.
Li, who was in her 80s, was hospitalized last November. She hired a nurse to
take care of her in hospital.
One day, as the nurse accompanied her to an examination, Li insisted on
walking through the hospital's office area, which was off-limits to patients,
despite the nurse's attempts to persuade her otherwise.
The nurse, meanwhile, had to walk the long way around and wait for her in the
examination room.
Just as the woman, who was wearing slippers, got to the office area alone,
she fell to the floor. She died several days later.
Her children sued the hospital for negligence. But the court later confirmed
that Li's death was not directly related to the fall and ruled that Li had been
responsible for her own careless behaviour.
