China have fulfilled their pre-games target of surpassing the gold medal tally of 34 achieved at the 2000 Sydney Paralympic Games by taking six more golds on the seventh day at the 12th Paralympic Games in Athens on Friday.

With a stunning collection of five gold medals and two world records in the 2000 games, China's star swimmer Zhu Hongyan won the women's S12 class 100 meters freestyle event Friday afternoon, in one minute 1.99 seconds.

It was the second gold medal for the 29-year-old and China's 35th in Athens.

With 87 athletes, China also won 22 silver and 16 bronze for a medal tally of 72 in the Sydney games four years ago.

The hosting country of the 2008 games now boast of 36 gold, 33 silver, 24 bronze for a medal tally of 93, in the Greek capital.

Britain enjoyed 24 gold, 18 silver and 20 bronze for a total of 62 medals, ranking second in the medal table.

Australia, which topped the medal standings as hosts of the 2000 games, is now ranked third with a medal credit of 19-25-19 for a medal tally of 63.

China's fresh golden gain on Friday came from the sports of athletics, swimming and powerlifting.

In athletics, China were the leader of the day with three gold medals as Tunis, Australia, Ukraine, the Czech republic and Canada each got two.

Germany were the biggest winners in swimming pool, claiming three gold medals while China, South Africa and United States added each took away two to their medal credit.

Four gold medals produced in road cycling races were split by Denmark, Austria, Slovakia and Australia.

Sweden and Norway grabbed one equestrian gold medal each as Australia and Britain got one apiece in wheelchair tennis.

Powerlifting powerhouse Egypt claimed two gold medals and Chinese Fu Taoying took the remaining title in women's 60kg category.

With four more days left for the competition program, the largest ever Paralympic Games in history with over 3,850 athletes in 19 sports are to close next Tuesday.
