Ma Ying-jeou formally takes office as KMT head

Lien Chan (R), the outgoing chairman of
Taiwan's opposition Nationalist Party, receives a bouquet of flowers and a
hug from a party worker in Taipei August 19, 2005. Lien formally stepped
down and handed the Nationalist or Kuomintang chairmanship to Taipei Mayor
Ma Ying-jeou at a ceremony in party headquarters on Friday.
